Thirty students and three chaperones attended the SEASACMUN II Bangkok Conference at the Bangkok Patana School on March 20th and March 21st. Our motivated students found themselves in an ideal environment for understanding and appreciating different cultures, perspectives and ideas. The conference was ideal for providing all delegates opportunities to obtain first hand of the many difficulties faced when trying to find solutions to problems concerning the world.

Our students were enthusiastic, empathetic, passionate and compassionate when considering issues that affected the plight of others. New friendships were made and old ones rekindled.

Topics in committees for debate included:

  • Disarmament and International Security: drug‐trafficking, information and communications, conventional weapons, space related activities
  • Economic and Social: copyright violation, climate change, exploitation of Africa, debt relief
  • Social, Humanitarian and Cultural: human rights in war zones, racial discrimination in Asia, assistance to victims of natural disasters, euthanasia
  • ECOSOC: endemic malaria, access to education in developing countries, malnutrition, women’s equality
  • Political: Palestine/Israel conflict
  • Security Council: Somalia, Afghanistan, Haiti, Colombia…

A great time was had by all. Thank you to everyone who participated.
