Student life

Club and activities

A wide variety of clubs, fine arts opportunities and athletic activities are available to International School Yangon high school students. While these vary from year to year, examples include high school drama productions, Model United Nations, SEEDS Environmental Club, yearbook, science fair and SEASAC sports. School-wide events which involve high school students include International Day, United Nations Forum, the Olympiad, Earth Day, World Languages Week, and Fun Fair.

Student Council

Student CouncilA High School Student Council, consisting of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Class Representatives is elected each year by the HS student body. In addition to organizing social and fund-raising activities such as dances, prom and sports nights, the Student Council acts as a liaison between students, teachers and administration and organizes student-led awareness programs on topics that are relevant to the lives of adolescents.

Athletics and SEASAC

International School Yangon is a member of SEASAC, the South East Asia Student Activities Conference, which consists of twelve international schools in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia. Through this association, International School Yangon is provided opportunities to participate in international interscholastic sports tournaments and fine arts conventions. SEASAC Soccer and Volleyball Tournaments take place in November, the SEASAC Basketball, Tennis and Rugby Tournaments are held in February, SEASAC Swimming is in early Mach, with Softball and Badminton Tournaments taking place in March, and the SEASAC Fine Arts Festival and MUN usually take place in either October or March. International School Yangon strives to send boys and girls teams to each of these SEASAC events.

SEASACSEASAC teams practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:00, and occasionally on Saturdays. There is a seven to nine-week training session prior to each SEASAC Tournament, and students who want to participate in the SEASAC Tournament are expected to attend all practices. SEASAC activities provide varsity level high school experiences; middle school students are allowed to join at the coach’s request.

Most SEASAC tournaments are held outside of Myanmar, requiring that students miss classes on Thursday and Friday. For trips out of Myanmar, International School Yangon will make all travel arrangements. Parents are obligated to pay 80% of the air fare, and all incidental travel costs, including visa costs, taxes, hotels and meals. International School Yangon hosts the SEASAC Softball Tournament often, and we have a reputation for hosting an excellent tournament. Other athletics for International School Yangon students include RISL Community Softball, Monsoon Community Volleyball, ISY Community Basketball, ISY Community Court Soccer, and the ISY Soccer Mini League.
